Today, Roco of Austria is one of the very few big companies still producing light railway models. But who would have thought that their mine cars and coal waggons are contemporaries of the EGGER-BAHN? Yes, it's true: Back in the Sixties, the American distributor AHM (»Associated Hobby Manufacturers«) sold European Roco trains under the »Minitrains« label. On the box cover of a typical AHM complete set shown above, you can see the tiny Roco cars, as well as their two locomotives, a dark green/yellow Plymouth Diesel switcher and a Baldwin saddle tank steam engine. There are even older boxes known, carrying the logos of »Roco« and »Mehanotechnika Izola« plus the inscription »Made in Yugoslavia«... AHM initially even sold original EGGER-BAHN vehicles in the United States. On this early AHM box cover, you can easily identify the »E-B« sign on the EGGER-BAHN western loco. No wonder that even experts may get puzzled sometimes when asked about the origin of a certain model... |
